Aliens vs. Pinball is a collection of three tables based on 20th Century Fox's sci-fi horror franchise, Alien, which chronicles humanity's numerous deadly encounters with a ferocious species of extraterrestrials, the Xenomorphs.
Tables[]
The three tables in this mini-collection, listed in canonical order, are:
- Alien vs. Predator: Based on the premise and setting of the 2004 film directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, this table follows the journey of a young Predator who undergoes a rite of passage to become a seasoned warrior and Alien hunter within the bowels of a giant pyramid built in Antarctica and explored by Charles Bishop's expedition team in the film.
- Alien: Isolation: A pinball adaptation of the 2014 video game published by SEGA and set between the events of Alien and Aliens, this table follows Amanda Ripley in her harrowing efforts to stay one step ahead of a stalking Xenomorph aboard the space station Sevastopol.
- Aliens: Recaptures the events of the highly-acclaimed 1986 film and sequel to Alien, where Ellen Ripley joins a squad of galactic marines to investigate a colony for Xenomorphs and are all drawn into a deadly struggle to eradicate them all.
Availability[]
All three tables were available simultaneously on April 26, 2016, coinciding with what is known as "Alien Day" (due to the month and day numbers forming the code number of the colony where Aliens takes place in, LV-426) and marking the 30th anniversary of Aliens. The tables can be purchased separately in the games Zen Pinball 2, Pinball FX 2 and Pinball FX 3, as well as in the Zen Pinball mobile app.
The three tables are also free-to-play in the downloadable Aliens vs. Pinball mobile app. An Internet connection is required to play any of the three tables, and only Alien vs. Predator is available from the start. To unlock the other two tables, the player must complete three challenges each on the unlocked tables. Advertisements will play at the beginning of a new session, but they can be removed for a particular table (or for all tables), along with the need for online connectivity through an in-app purchase.
Censorship[]
Since most Alien media involve graphic violence and strong language that would not be appropriate for children, Zen Studios has omitted such content from the pinball adaptations, allowing only milder swear words like "damn" and "bastard" and brief splashes of alien goo when Xenomorph eggs are destroyed in the Alien vs. Predator table. This allows the overall Everyone 10+ ESRB rating to be maintained across all Zen Pinball titles, but results in a higher Teen rating for the Android version of the Aliens vs. Pinball app, as well as a 12+ rating on the App Store for its iOS version.
