"We got all the protection we need."
Lee Everett, The Walking Dead
The outlanes of a pinball table are considerably dangerous places for a ball to be as they take it around the flippers and directly into the outhole to be lost. However, there are certain mechanisms to protect the ball from draining into an outlane that the player can activate and use at their disposal.
Types of Protections[]
There are a few different types of outlane protection mechanisms that are typically earned by the player:
- Kickbacks: A kickback is a mechanism built into an outlane that, when activated, kicks the ball back to a safer area. Kickbacks have different mechanical implementations on different tables.
- Magna Saver: A powerful magnet built near the bottom of the playfield that is activated by tapping the launch button once it is available to the player. If properly used, it can save the ball from draining down the center or down either outlane.
